Glo pays NPFL Sponsorship Money

Telecommunications Company Glo today (Monday) handed over a cheque for N1.89 billion to the League Management Committee as NPFL sponsorship fee for the next three years.

The payment signals the end of a bitter, three-way squabble between the Nigeria's Premier league, Total Promotions and Glo over the titlerights.

Total Promotions had won the rights two years ago in a bid with Glo, but opted to transmit it to MTN, a move that Glo not only disputed, but took to court.

In an out of court settlement brokered by the LMC and overseen by the Sorts Minister, Total Promotions agreed to a N100million compensation in exchange for ceding the rights to Glo.
And on Monday, the deal was finally sealed.

The NPFL will receive N550 million in the first year of the contract, N605 million in the second year and N665.5 million in the final year for a total of just over N1.8205 billion.

The rest will go into add-ons, including but not limited tithe organization of the annual end of season Super Four competition and other activations.

Additionally, clubs are now allowed to negotiate sponsorship deals with other telecommunicati on firms, according to LMC official Shehu Dikko
