OPINION: Sir Alex Ferguson is scared

Writer: Amos Joseph
Records have it that Sir Alex Ferguson is the EPL greatest manager, reports have it that he'll retire from his position and a new manager would be announced to succeed Fergie.

Manchester United is a successful club both on and off the pitch. This is evident in the number of titles, ranking among world clubs, off the pitch business deal such as branding and rights even at the stock market.

With his achievements at the Theater of Dreams, being a manager, a coach and a leader.  It could therefore be said that the Red devils do not only need a manager but a well respected and charismatic one at that. Take a look at Fergie's influence on games, on his player, fellow managers the match officials and the FA.

You'll agree that Fergie's influence has no match or comparison.

He wants to leave the role but doesn't want to leave the scene. Fergie is wise I'll say. He understand the simple but golden rule of a successful man. This is therefore the more reason he wants to hand over to "the best man".

In the fray-
  • David Moyes whose contract will end soon at Everton and in the good book of Fergie is pegged as the man in the ''pole position'' to take over now.
  • Jose Mourinho, the man who has been at the fore front for the past two seasons but with recent romance with Chelsea and it's owner, one can never tell.
  • Jurgen Klop, the manager of the moment with his recent success at Borussia Dortmund taking them to the finals.
  • Pep Guardiola, ofcourse is knock out having picked up the job at the Allianz Arena as coach of Bayern Munich beginning from Summer.

There is a school of thought with the saying, ''if your successor does not succeed then you are not a success''. Could this be the thought on Fergie's mind? Well, no one would want his successor to fail, so he's leaving the role and but not leaving the scene. As a result he will pick up the position of a Director and Ambassador for the club.

Would you say Fergie is scared? For me, Yes. Scared of failing based on this school of thought.
