Congo defeat: Enyeama charges Super Eagles to stay focused

Although he excused himself from the Super Eagles squad due to family reason, Captain Vincent Enyeama has sent a word of encouragement to the team after the African champions lost to 2-3 to Congo in Calabar on Saturday.

 

The Lille of France No. 1 shot-stopper posted the message on his instagram account with tags to several of the team member.

 

His post reads: ''Losing doesn't make us failure. We are well able to arise, conquer and have dominion.

 

''We have done it before and we will do it again. Let us believe and work hard towards greatness, let's join our hands, let's become a stronger force.

 

''It's not time to blame and criticize, it's time to push towards greatness''

 

Meanwhile the Super Eagles face South Africa  in their second match of the qualifying round on Wednesday

 

 

Drogba bows out of international football

Ivory Coast and Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has decided to quit national team football.

The Ivorian forward (36) released a statement on his Instagram account on Friday afternoon and also shared a picture of his moments with the national team which he captained for almost a decade.

He writes, ''It is with great sadness that I have decided to end my international career.  

''These twelve years in the national team have been immense emotions. My first choice for my last game it was always important for me to give the best of myself to my country.

''I am of course proud to be the captain of this team for 8 years and have helped put my country Cote D'Ivoire on the world stage by taking part in three World Cups in a row and two finals of CAN unfortunate. 

''I can not thank the fans for all their love and appreciation for these années.Tous my goal, s all my selections, and victories are for you, I love you !!! 

''I thank all the players who have helped me to be a pleasure and I wish good luck to my new ex-partners for upcoming deadlines and of course Akwaba the new coach.''

Drogba has made a total of 104 caps for his country and scored 65 goals in all. 

AFCON 2015 Qualifier: Cape Town to host South Africa vs Nigeria tie

South Africa Football Association has announced that the clash against Nigeria scheduled for 10 September, 2014 will be in Cape Town.

The Bafana Bafana will tackle Sudan five days before the African Champions tie on away soil in Khartoum which might be a test of strength for the team that just hired a new coach in Shake Mashaba.

Nigeria host Bafana Bafana in the return leg on November 19; South Africa plays Sudan four days before that date as well.

Meanwhile, SAFA president Danny Jordan has stated that the coach is not mandated to qualify the team to AFCON Morocco 2015, a tournament which they last hosted in 2013; but to build the team for the next formidable future.

“We will not say to Shakes that he must qualify for Morocco 2015. That is not his mandate. The mandate is to build a sustainable Bafana Bafana team for the next few years.''
