Fenerbahce team bus attacked after winning 5-1 at Caykur Rizespor


Reports from Turkey indicate that Fenerbahce team bus was attacked by gunmen following a win at Çaykur Rizespor on Saturday.

According to Turkish media outlets Hurriyet and Today's Zaman, the driver was reportedly seriously injured and taken to a hospital.
The Istanbul based team defeated the home team Rizespor 5-1 in the Super Lig and were heading to Trabzon in north-eastern Turkey for their flight back to their base when the bus was attacked along the Sürmene-Arakli Highway. Police said the bus windows were broken by gunfire, and the broken glass seriously injured the driver.

Fenerbahce security guards had to take over control of the bus, and once it was pulled over, team doctors tended to the driver, who was eventually transported to a hospital.

No injuries were reported besides the driver, whose condition was not immediately known.

Shola Ameobi moves from Newcastle to 2nd Division club in Turkey

Nigeria forward Shola Ameobi has joined Gaziantep Buyuksehir Belediyespor, a 2nd Division Turkish side which many tag as an odd move.

The 32-year old Super Eagles forward who was at the World Cup made the move from English premier League side Newcastle after a 10 year spell at the club scoring 79 goals in 397 appearances.

Champions League play-off: Arsenal draw Besiktas of Turkey

Arsenal will confront Turkish side Besiktas in the play-off round of the Champions League.


Arsène Wenger's side will travel to Turkey for the first leg on 19/20 before hosting the Turkish side at Emirates Stadium the following week.

It could be recalled that Fernebache of Turkey was the stepping stone for Arsenal in a similar fixture last season.
