On Tuesday Nigeria white washed Tahiti in a match that ended 6-1 at the on-going FIFA Confederations cup in Brazil, where Elderson Echiejile saw his shot deflected in by Tahiti captain Nicolas Vallar, the goal was Nigeria's first in the rout but the world football governing body has announced that the goal is credited to Vallar.
Mtnfootball.com reports that FIFA has already ruled on the matter.
''Following further studies of the video of the match between Tahiti and
Nigeria on 17 June in Belo Horizonte, FIFA's Technical Study Group has decided
the first goal of Nigeria, scored in the fifth minute, was an own goal by
Tahiti number 10 Nicolas Vallar," read a statement from world governing
body FIFA.''
"The goal was initially awarded to Nigeria's Uwa Echiejile but after
careful review was credited as an own goal.''
