The European Football governing body in the quest to further improve and standardize football in the continent has approved a planned league to replace international friendlies for member nations.
According to a press release on UEFA's website The 54 UEFA member associations unanimously adopted a four-point resolution entitled 'National men's A-team competitions 2018-2022' at the XXXVIII Ordinary UEFA Congress in Astana which will see the launch of the UEFA Nations League from 2018.
The competition will feature promotion and relegation, will see a
winning team every odd year and will replace most international
friendlies.
"We accept and respect that all UEFA member associations have
agreed to create a new competition," said Wolfgang Niersbach,
chairman of the National Teams Competition Committee. "This is a
big step for national teams in Europe and we hope that fans will
support the new format."
