Fateful Day: August 8 is Luis Suarez' last chance to reduce his four months ban for biting

Reports have it that Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been told August 8 is the confirmed date when he will learn his fate over the four month ban imposed by FIFA.

The Uruguayan, who bit the Italian defender during the World Cup group stage last month, signed for Barcelona from Liverpool after the incident, but is banned until the end of October.

Dailymail.co.uk reports that the tribunal has been called for this date by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, and will represent Suarez's last chance to reduce the ban.

Under the conditions of the ban, Suarez cannot partake in any footballing activity for another three months, including training and being unveiled as Barcelona's record signing.

Gerrard told Suarez he's too good for Arsenal. Big Mouth?

Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard has finally revealed how he succeeded in making his former colleague Luis Suarez stay at Anfield last season in the face of suitors for the striker.

Amongst the big clubs that came for the player was Arsenal, with a £40m on the table but the Reds refused to let go of their star player.

The Uruguay striker remained at the club, bagged the highest goal scorer and several other individual awards but left for Barcelona for a £75m which Gerrard admits is a blow to the team.

Gerrard - ''You know what I think of him, I love him to bits and I’m his number one fan as a player, I spoke to him before he went, and he was so thankful to the club for all the times they stuck by him.

''His dream all along, from the first day he came, was to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

''Last summer, when he was out in the cold and training on his own, that’s the conversation I had with him. I said, ‘Don’t go to Arsenal.''

''With all due respect to them, I said to him that he was too good for Arsenal. I said, ‘If you score 30 goals for us and win the PFA Player of the Year, the press Player of the Year' – and believe it or not I knew he was going to win them – ‘they will come back for you.''

"You can't begrudge him his dream, leaving for Barca," Gerrard added.

"But I'd have been disappointed if he had left for Arsenal."

Pre-season Friendly: Perfect start for Van Gaal as United white-wash LA Galaxy (7-0)

There's a school of thought which says seven (7)  is the number for perfection, could it be for the new manager of Manchester United Louis Van Gaal as his side thump MLS giants Los Angeles Galaxy 7-1 in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday in his first game in charge of the English Premier league outfit.

The Reds got the pre-season tour of the United States off to an ideal start in Pasadena, thanks to goals from Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney (2), Reece James (2) and Ashley Young (2).

The quality of United’s football impressed van Gaal but he was most pleased with the way they adapted to his trademark 3-5-2 system, with debutant Ander Herrera sparkling in midfield.

''It is fantastic how they have performed today,” van Gaal said. “When you see us train, you can expect something but not 7-0. It was a surprise, but they were beautiful goals and beautiful attacks.

''The result always matters. With such a result you get confidence. We introduced a new system and played twice on the training pitch, 11 v 11. It is not very much, but the boys are willing to pick up the information. Last week, 10 players who played tonight were not even at our training complex.

''When I see my team playing a new system, it is better to win 7-0 than to lose because the players will then doubt the system. But now I don’t have that problem.''

Iheanacho scores in City's 4-1 Pre-season win over Sporting Kansas City

Nigerian youngster Kelechi Icheanacho scored for Manchester City on his debut for the first team against Sporting Kansas City in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday in the United State.

Iheanacho who has been training with City over the past few weeks, stroked home the fourth on full-time from a Jesus Navas assist to complete the 4-1 rout of the MLS side.

Midfielder Bruno Zuculini, struck the ball home from 20 yards out to give the Kansas City keeper no chance but the hosts equalised later in the half when CJ Sapong settle the scores.

City regained the lead on half-time when Dedryck Boyata headed home Jesus Navas' superb cross and the Blues kicked on again after the break.

Though Sporting KC could have drawn level a couple of times only to be denied by a mixture of poor finishing and good goal-keeping by Willy Caballero, it was City who turned the screw with two more goals in the closing stages. First Sinclair was brought down in the box and Aleks Kolarov buried the penalty kick to make it 3-1 and before Iheanacho capped an impressive debut.

Mourinho dreams big, claims Chelsea want to dominate the Premier League for the next decade

Manager of Chelsea football club Jose Mourinho has been looking ahead to the coming season and, in particular, the two major competitions.

Speaking in a conference room at the team's hotel in Velden, Austria, the Portuguese talked about his hopes for our Premier League and Champions League campaigns acknowledging the competitive nature of the top flight in England, but said he is confident his side can wrestle the title from Manchester City’s grasp.

‘If I didn’t think that way I would go home and let somebody else take charge of the team,’ said the Chelsea manager. ‘People can speak about other leagues but England is the only country where five or six teams can win the title. Football is about competitiveness every weekend and that only happens in the Premier League.

‘When you have the two Manchester clubs, the three clubs from London – Tottenham, Arsenal and ourselves – plus Liverpool, that’s six top teams, where all of them can win the title. That’s why everybody loves the Premier League.

‘At Chelsea, if we didn’t think we could win the league, or didn’t think we had the quality to do it, we wouldn’t be here working so hard. We respect our opponents and their ambitions, because they have the same ambitions as us, but we want to win the Premier League and we are ready for that.’

Last season’s Champions League campaign ultimately ended in disappointment when we were beaten at the semi-final stage by Atletico Madrid.

The Blues boss, however, believes our run to the last four will serve us well this time around.

‘Last year we reached the semi-finals and it was a transitional season,’ he said. ‘A team which has been a winning team for ten seasons is changing step by step, we’ve bought new players and we are trying to build for the next decade. We had a very young team at the time but, even so, we reached the semi-finals and were playing to win the competition.

‘This season we think we are going to be stronger, the younger players are more experienced, they are stable and better adapted to fighting for titles. You look around, to Spain, Germany and elsewhere in England, teams are getting stronger, spending big amounts of money and trying to sign the best possible players.

‘We will go to the Champions League group stage with one objective: to qualify. When you reach the last 16 let’s see what happens.’

Racism: Man City Withdraw from friendly

''Keeping Rodriguez will be hard for Monaco'' - Wenger

Manager of Arsenal football club of England, Arsene Wenger has expressed that Monaco will have a hard time trying to keep James Rodriguez.

The 22-year old Colombian midfielder scored six goals at the recently concluded FIFA world Cup in Brazil to be crowned the highest goal scorer and his display has attracted huge European Clubs especially Real Madrid being priced for £70m.

“I believe that’s true,” Wenger told beIN Sports when asked if Rodriguez is too big for the French club.

“Why? Because a player like that is difficult to keep at a club when you have Real Madrid and Barcelona looking around, and without a doubt there will be people who will be watching them play and thinking about buying him.

“Is this the year that he will move? Certainly not because he is with Monaco and they will play Champions League next season and they are a big club in France.

“But certainly in the next season or two he will want to move somewhere else.”

Rodriguez joined Monaco from FC Porto last in 2013.

Brazil 2014 World Cup: List of Individual Award Winners

The winner of the World Cup on south American soil has been decided so also has outstanding individuals players and countries been rewarded. Below is the list according to FIFA:
adidas Golden Ball: Lionel Messi (Argentina)
A true captain and a true matchwinner. There can be no finer compliment to Argentina skipper Lionel Messi, who was so influential in his team’s path to the Final. With some questioning just how influential he would be in Brazil after a demanding season for Barcelona and concerns over a troublesome hamstring, he silenced the doubters by simply being his usual inspirational self. He mesmerised at the Maracana by scoring and setting up another in the 2-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina. He scored late on against Iran to send the team through to the Round of 16 and then added two in the 3-2 win over Nigeria. But he didn’t stop there. He played the ball to Angel Di Maria, who scored in the 118th minute of the match against Switzerland to send them through to the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals he stroked home a penalty to help his side defeat the Dutch. And while the personal accolade may be scant reward for a runners-up medal, he can be justifiably proud of his performances at this FIFA World Cup.

adidas Silver Ball: Thomas Muller (Germany)
adidas Bronze Ball: Arjen Robben (Netherlands)

adidas Golden Boot: James Rodriguez (Colombia) - 6 goals, 2 assists
Colombia’s No10 made an instant impact at Brazil 2014, scoring in the last minute in their 3-0 win over Greece, earning the Budweiser Man of the Match Award in the process. He picked up the same accolade in the next match, a 2-1 win over Côte d’Ivoire, finding the target once more. The Monaco man was at it again in the final group game against Japan, entering the fray as a second-half substitute, yet making time to create two goals for Jackson Martinez and score himself. Rodriguez then made history when he scored twice in the 2-0 win over Uruguay, ensuring Colombia qualified for the quarter-finals of a FIFA World Cup for the first time. There he tasted defeat for the first time against Brazil, but converted a consolatory penalty and earned a standing ovation from the crowd in Fortaleza for his efforts.

adidas Silver Boot: Thomas Muller (5 goals, 3 assists)
adidas Bronze Boot: Neymar (4 goals, 1 assist)

adidas Golden Glove: Manuel Neuer (Germany)
After winning the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup with Bayern Munich, the 28-year-old now has the adidas Golden Glove to add to his growing collection. The Germany No1 was in fine form for the Nationalmannschaft during Brazil 2014, conceding just four goals in seven games and impressing FIFA’s Technical Study Group with his shot-stopping ability, his commanding presence and his ability to start attacks from his own penalty area. Indeed, he has been dubbed a ‘sweeper-keeper’ by sections of the media for his performances at this World Cup, featuring plenty of evidence of his desire to come off his line and play accurate passes when under pressure.

Hyundai Young Player Award: Paul Pogba (France)
The France midfielder was considered to be the pick of the players born after 1 January 1993 at this World Cup. The Juventus midfielder played in all five of Les Bleus' games, having an impact in the 5-2 win over Switzerland by creating a goal for Karim Benzema and then scoring in the 2-0 win over Nigeria, in which he was named as the Budweiser Man of the Match. In picking up this award, he has won the Golden Ball award at the FIFA U-20 World Cup and the Young Player award at successive tournaments.

FIFA Fair Play Award: Colombia
The Group C winners who reached the quarter-finals were given this award, not only for collecting just five yellow cards in their five matches at Brazil 2014, but for scoring highly in the criteria set by FIFA’s Technical Study Group, which includes positive play, respect towards the opponent and match officials, as well as the behaviour of their team officials and supporters.

World Cup: Netherlands beat Brazil 3-0 to claim third place spot

Again, in front of home fans and their injured star player (Neymar) who sat on the bench, the Brazilians were crushed by the Netherlands 0-3 in the fight for a third place finish at the World Cup on Saturday.

Captain of the host team Thiago Silva did not feature in the 7-1 debacle against Germany but on his return on Saturday, he was instrumental to the early goal his side conceded after he pulled Arjen Robben in the box which resulted into a penalty Cooly slotted in by Robin Van Persie.

Six minutes later, David Luis poor header which was meant to be a clearance fell to Daley Blind who controlled perfectly and scored the second as the Brazilians chased shadows and tried rallying back but conceded another later scored by Georginio Wijnaldum.

Arjen Robben was awarded the Man of The Match as coach of the side Louis Van Gaal ended his reign as the handler of the Dutch national team.
