The world saw the hammering of World Cup hosts, Brazil by the German in a record-breaking manner which is already being hailed as the most humiliating episode in the history of Brazilian football, garnered over 35.6 million tweets, easily surpassing the near 25 million about the Superbowl final in February.
According to Telegraph.co.uk anew record for tweets per minute was also set during the semi-final, as over 580,000 tweets were posted when Sami Khedira scored Germany's fourth in the 29th minute.
Miroslav Klose, who broke the all-time World Cup scoring record in the game, was the most tweeted about player.
